How to replace the ignition Key in the Saab XC90

It's possible to replace your SAAB key fob if you're having trouble turning the barrel of your lock. Fortunately, the process is relatively simple and doesn't require you to visit an agent. Instead you can complete the process yourself at home using the help of a few tools.

The first step is to prepare the new key. Before you start, ensure that the anti-theft system is disabled by placing blocks on your rear wheels and engaging the handbrake. Then, insert the key into the ignition and move it to the on position which activates the accessories, but it doesn't start the engine. Repeat this procedure 5 times, and then put the key on the "on" position.

You'll then have to buy an additional case for your key fob. They can be found in most auto parts stores and are typically very affordable. Based on the model, you may even purchase them without electronic components.

To open the case you need to gently push the screwdriver with a flathead into the slot in the middle. When you've split the case, you will have access to all the internal electronics. Use a flathead screwdriver to gently remove the electronic components.
